Privacy notice

Last updated 31 July 2026.

Who we are

Chapters (“we”, “us”) is the data controller for the personal information described below. [Registered company name and address to be added here — placeholder pending legal/founder input.] You can reach us about anything in this notice at private@chapters.travel.

What we collect

When you take the quiz, we collect:

  • Both partners’ first names.
  • The occasion you declare — including “Babymoon,” which discloses pregnancy. Under UK/EU GDPR this is special category data (Article 9).
  • Whether children are traveling, and (in Logistics) their ages.
  • Your quiz answers, and how long each of you paused on each question (dwell time).
  • Travel logistics you declare: home region or airport, budget band, trip length.
  • If you use the optional “tell us more” step: dreams, no-gos, places you’ve been and how you felt about them, and terrain preferences.
  • Your email address, only if you ask us to send you a link to your results.

We do not currently collect dietary or accessibility detail (allergy severity, mobility, motion sickness) in the live product — if that changes, this notice will be updated before collection starts, per the point-of-collection principle above.

Why we process it, and on what legal basis

  • Delivering the service you asked for — building your taste profile, matching destinations, and (if you continue) building your itinerary. Legal basis: performance of a contract with you, or steps taken at your request before entering one.
  • The Babymoon/occasion signal and any future health-adjacent detail — used only to shape which destinations and logistics we show you. Legal basis: your explicit consent, given by selecting that tile. You can decline to select it; nothing else in the quiz requires it.
  • Sending you a link to your results, if you request one. Legal basis: consent (you provide your email specifically for this).
  • Dwell-time data — used to measure how confidently each axis was answered, so a hesitant answer can be weighted differently from a confident one. Legal basis: legitimate interest in the accuracy of a service you asked for; never used for anything else.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of processors to run the service, each under a data processing agreement:

  • Supabase — database and backend hosting.
  • Resend — sending you transactional email (e.g. a results link), when you ask for one.
  • Vercel — application hosting.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising purposes.

Where your data is processed

Our database and hosting run in the United States. If you are in the UK or EEA, this is an international transfer of your personal data. [Transfer safeguard — Standard Contractual Clauses with our processors — to be confirmed and referenced here once the underlying DPAs are in place; flagged as in-progress work, not yet complete.]

How long we keep it

We keep quiz answers, profiles, and logistics for as long as your account or an active trip plan is live, and for a limited period afterward in case you return. We are finalizing a written, per-table retention schedule with an automated enforcement job; until that lands, treat this section as a stated intention rather than a guarantee, and contact us using the address above if you’d like your data reviewed or removed sooner.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate data.
  • Ask us to erase your data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Restrict or object to certain processing.
  • Receive your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that already happened lawfully.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these, email private@chapters.travel.

Cookies and similar technology

The quiz uses local browser storage to remember your progress and preferences on your own device. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

Changes to this notice

If we change what we collect or why, we’ll update this page and, where the change is material, tell you before you next give us information covered by it.
